So someone over at Tree of Souls has been finding quirks left and right about this page. (He's a beginner, just looking at the Learn Na'vi main site trying to pick up on some stuff)

I think that this page desperately needs attention and possibly even a re-write. Anyone who knows stuff about the language have the time to do this?

I myself just noticed stuff like the heading

Vowels, Diphthongs, and "Pseudovowels"

appears exactly twice, and things are just awkward all around on that page. I've been fixing minor stuff when I see it, though.

So yeah... What does everyone think of the content on the main site? I personally think it could use a little editing.

Ah, so what's your "plan"? :P Rewriting it complete? ???
Oh, some ideas apears me:
- It would be a great to add to the Phonetics Page some audio examples, not only words. :)
- The Phrases could have much more stuff, like Na'vi expressions and idioms.
- For the numbers, hmmm...ich was crazy enough to write every number in Na'vi from zero up to 1023 - here in the spoiler and maybe some stuff about the use onf the numbers, ordinal, repetitions and fractions.

Do you mean this page?

Srane, that one. (and possibly the others too.)
IMHO all these "learning resources" pages are somehow..... not good. I think instead of putting text here it would be more useful to put here links to documents/threads related to topics. I don't reason why to put dictionary here when we have PDF dictionary maintaned by Markì/TA, dict-navi.com or vocabulary page in wiki. Is vocabulary page updated with new words? (probably yes, maybe it is generated from current dictionary data)
Grammar is too short and contains just some information about verbs and sentence structure.
Phrases in fact contains no phrase, but links into corpus and canon, what is correct. But chapter about questions and demonstratives fits into grammar, I think.
Rewriting all these is great idea.

About the dictionary page, I'm agree with Blue Elf. Why we have a PDF file of it?

Ma Tirea, if you need help (especially for design) just ask me. :D

Looking at it from a 'I just found the site' perspective, we do need a presentation of the language on these 'main pages' that is quickly instructive, without getting bogged down in details. IMHO, links to forum discussions are much harder to deal with (in terms of extraneous material and verbiage), from a visitor's perspective, than a succinct discussion of how the language works. If there were unlimited resources, I would even suggest two sets of main visitor's pages, one set for those who have no concept on how to learn a language, and another for those who have learned a second language, or have a little linguistics background.

A very worthwhile project for the forums, though, would be an index to discussions on different language topics. These come in useful for active learners, and those who want to see how something developed. Often, knowing and understanding the background on how something came to be (like the ongoing pronoun discussion) can really help in 'cementing' a challenging or hard-to-remember language concept.

The site has had /navi-vocabulary for a long time. That used to be generated by Eana Eltu, but now that we're on WordPress, the process is no longer automated. (You'll notice that I updated the vocab page recently) I use a script to generate these words and then paste them in the WordPress editor. The only problem is how Python deals with Alphabet order. And capital letters. Yes, we have a PDF file, which is great if you have Acrobat or something that can easily and quickly open and search the file, but for others, opening the site and performing page search is really fast. But the real question is, Why is it there because we have dict-navi.com? That, I don't know. If you ask me, using dict-navi.com is better than /navi-vocabulary page of LN. I think on the  Vocabulary page, there should be a link to the Dictionary or a link to /media page where dictionary can be downloaded. And also probably a link to dict-navi.com or something.

I just think all these Learning Resources pages need to be rewritten. I think they need to contain a decent amount of information to get a basic idea of the framework of the language and what makes it interesting and different, but not be overwhelmingly specific.

What we currently have (in this entire site and even the forum in my opinion) speaks mostly to people with a linguistic background, or people who have already learned and possibly even created conlangs before. I'd love for the site to be really cool and welcoming to beginners as well as people who are advanced. To be a nice place with nice balance between displaying Na'vi language features for people who are totally new(without confusing or making these people feel stupid), and for people who have done this type of thing a million times before (without condescending to these people)

I think it could be fun to collaboratively create these pages as a Community. :) For everyone in the forum to be invited to have some input in these pages in the main site. Of course, making sure that the final product contains only accurate/true information. :D
