Hey,

Sorry, if this is not the right place, but I couldn't find an answer, or a better place to ask my question.

I noticed that my karma went down from 0 to -1. How? Why? And what does it mean?

Also, if it is some kind of punishment, I'd like to know what I did to deserve it, so I can learn from it, and eventually become a more intelligent shade of blue.

Thanks,
blueme

It's basically how the general community feels about comments you make and such, you are able to click on a person's post to raise or lower their karma. +1 karma for you

Karma is (ideally) a numerical representation of how much people like you on the forums. Seeing as you don't have very many posts yet, it's probably that you either got on someone's bad side (which, looking at your post content, I find hard to believe) or there's a karmic jerk hanging around smiting people.
I personally wouldn't worry about it. Your past posts are great, you're obviously not a troll-skxawng or anything. the more you post, the better people will think of you, usually. For some, karma's a big deal. for other, including me, it's just a number under your profile picture.

Here's to not knowing exactly what you're saying and having fun with it.

OK, thanks, I didn't know that. Where exactly do you need to click?

Also, maybe karma deserves a short sticky? So that people don't go clicking each other's karma away accidentally. I'm on several forums, but this mechanic was completely new to me.

Cheers,

As I understand it, you need to make a few more posts before you'll see the feature.

It will end up appearing under other peoples Karma in there posts.

I believe you need 25 posts to be able to + or - other peoples' karma.  The "applaud" and "smite" buttons will appear under their name on their posts when you hit the magic number of posts.

Yup, I paid attention to it and I got the applaud and smite options at exactly 25 posts.

Cool

well, i think this is a prime example of why people should have the ability to post a reason why they applaud / smite somebody

cuts away the confusion and the person being applauded / smitten will know whats going on

Must be unlucky then. It's a standard feature in a lot of web community software these days. Anyway, have some karma.

Oh wow, I was worried that it was just me! I apologize if I've offended anyone or said something unhelpful. I'm also not very good at posting every day. I'm most likely to just read and keep to myself. I guess you'd call it lurking? I hope it's not a bad thing...But now I understand what karma is! Irayo  ;D

For those of you not familiar with Karma:

Karma is like reputation. You either have good rep or bad rep (karma). It's mostly used for people to praise people when they make a good post, or indicate that someone is a skxawng for making a dumb post. Plus raises karma, minus lowers. In some cases, karma is abused and turned into a popularity contest. In my case, i really don't care if i have -4000 karma. To me it's just a number. In my case, i reward karma for well thought posts. If someone posts something i feel is offensive or i disagree i might give negative karma. I generally only give out good karma. It takes quite a bit to make me give you bad karma, truthfully.
