I recently noticed that Tirea Radio and all the other radio sections got moved into a "Podcasts & Radio" forum...but Podcasts & Radio won't open.

Clicking on the Podcasts & Radio board makes Firefox give a redirect error, and IE doesn't do anything (just sits there indefinitely loading, never times out).

Also, Tirea Radio and Radio Avatar can still be accessed via the child board links, but Avatar Nation gives the same issue as the main Podcasts & Radio board (redirect error or infinite loading)

I can confirm this. The server is sending redirect headers to the same URL in an infinite loop. Firefox will cut the loop and display an error after ~20 cycles.

I'd say that someone just did something. The same issue occured all over the board which transitioned into all board just showing the board index.

??? ??? ??? ??? Everything's fine for me except for Podcasts & Radio.

I did notice something else this morning though. The server is acting up. I lost a few posts when they timed out while submitting.

Well, it was only happening for a minute or two ;)

Ah, well that explains why I missed it then. LN is just one of like 10 things I have open...

Not my place to disclose that at this time.

OK. (Was asking because I have a lot of free time right now and was looking to put it to use...)

Fixed that for you!

And yep, I had a look earlier today, trying to fix the redirect problem, without much success. I restarted the server once during the process, which may have accounted for the lost post (oeru txoa livu!)

SMF database structure is just ... guh. I'll try again later when my masochist side returns.

Well, that explains the timeouts and post loss.

No forum software's DB is pleasant to look at. Don't know about SMF, but I ran a PhpBB2-based site a little while back...DB structure was understandable, but nasty. PhpBB was full of bugs (probably from the modifications the previous admin installed) so fixing DB errors was common. I'd sometimes spend hours after school / on weekends figuring out the problems.

The site was shut down in spring 2009. If I learned something from it all, it was the basics of SQL, and how to tolerate complaints and flaming :P

Apart from some voodoo stuff for searches and obscure permissions, vB's is pretty legit.
Never looked at a vB database because I've never ran vB. (probably never will run one either...used to be on a vB site, and it seemed lacking compared to other forum software.)

I used to be a mod on another site as well, but it shut down in late March 2010 when the owner lacked the time and money to run it. :( Seems like every site I've become a mod on went bust a year later :P

vB looks fun, aside from the paying-money-for-it aspect.

Also, board urls fixed. For now. http://forum.learnnavi.org/avatar-nation/

Glad to see they're fixed. What was the cause?

Correction, vB was fun, now it's a sinking ship that just got bought by a scrap metal company.
vB does seem to be a dying program...most new sites I see are running phpBB, SMF, or IPB.

vB as in vBulletin? Sure, it's not the most used software, but that could be because it's $200 a year vs free.

Yeah, vBulletin. It's really that expensive? I've never bothered to look at the price for it. That probably explains the reason it isn't very popular.

Since the OP's issue is solved, vB 4 is pretty good (currently running it on 2 sites, and no, not $200/year, I got it for those sites for about $150 with an 'owned' license) and, for one, it has great modding capabilities (about the most important part of forum software).
$195 for vB4 "indefinite software license" according to their site. What do you mean by an "owned" license? One that doesn't need renewal? I only have experience with the free products, so no real knowledge in this area...

It's fine software, but all the 'real' developers jumped ship after the company got bought by "Internet Brands Inc." (no joke).
Apparently a creative company name was the last thing on the list when they founded that company :P

Now they're all hard at work over at XenForo ($140 owned) making fresh new forum & CMS software, which I assume is good by I have never used much.
Haven't used that one before. It's still new though...1.0 is still in beta. Given some time, I'm sure I'll see it somewhere...

Yes, I got it before the OmniCorp International Internet Brands takeover EDIT: with upgrade discount, so it was around that price.
Ah, that explains it.

Quote from: Ilisaqpuq on February 20, 2011, 09:35:32 PMWhat they mean by "indefinite" or "owned" is that you bought a license for version X, and you'll get free updates to X.1, X.2, X.3, etc, and probably a discount when major version X+1 comes out.
Oh, OK. Thanks for explaining that. :) I've seen software licenses advertising "free minor version updates" before, but never knew they were called "owned" until now...

As for XenForo...it'll be interesting to see how it progresses. :)
