I am having some difficulty getting font support for the Russian dictionary onto the system. Many of the .tfm files needed can come from TexLive, but installing it conflicts with the teTex 3.0x base and texmf packages already installed. Supposedly the author of teTex stopped supporting it way back in 2006, so I am not sure why it is there. Anyone have a clue? I am deathly afraid of the whole Tex system on the server because 1: I don't understand most of it, and 2: I am certain that if I start trying to update/replace stuff, I am going to break the thing beyond repair.

...maybe they help.

Who have installed Tex on your server? This person *usually* should know something about Tex...

Unfortunately, I don't know more...

Please do a backup before you jump into the codes...

A bigger edit:

Finally, if I search for that code:

in internet, I get some nice stuff, but mostly in russian language...

Yes, there are four .tfm files needed for the .ru dictionary, but so far, the only way I have found to get them is with the TexLive package that wants to overwrite teTex already there.

And thanks for the note about backing up things, but I already had that.

I was a bit worried :)

Here I found a lots of .tfm files:

...no idea which four of them you need...

I have compiled the dictionary in my home computer (texlive on Gentoo), and all metric (TFM) files have been created automatically at /var/cache/fonts/tfm. But it depends of TeX configuration. I have erased created metric (TFM) files in a /var/cache/fonts/tfm at my computer, and re-create it with the following commands:

kpsewhich -mktex=tfm larm1095.tfm
kpsewhich -mktex=tfm larm1200.tfm
kpsewhich -mktex=tfm larm1440.tfm
kpsewhich -mktex=tfm larm1728.tfm

May be it solve problem?

Toruk Makto

Ok, I have finally located and installed the entire Cyrillic metafont package for teTex (I hate obsolete software). For some reason, all the lh font sources had been deleted on the LN server. I generated the four needed tfm files and registered them for kpathsea manually. If additional Cyrillic font sizes are needed, there are sources for 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 20.74, 24.88, 20.86 and 35.83pt that I have not generated metric files for.

 Tìtstewan, can you try running your .ru dictionary create again?

You were very close to the solution (if indeed, I have actually found the solution)! The problem on this end is the rather outdated TeX system on the LN server. I had to brush up on teTex, find the right metafont package, manually install it, coax it to compile some metric files and then install them to the correct path on this particular flavor of TeX. I am assuming that the 'modern' toys do all that automagically.   :D

I'm not the guy who need cyrillic letters...
But I tested a bit, and I get this:

! Font T2A/ppl/m/n/10=larm1000 at 10.0pt not loadable: Metric (TFM) file not fo
und.

                  relax

?
! Emergency stop.

                  relax
l.43 U
     n român - Na'vi dicționar. \textbf{Caractere aldine} indică cuvinte...

------------

Now this error is caused, because the Russian files haven't Romanian letters. I think, baritone should test his version. :)

EDIT:
I used this at the Language_package:
\usepackage{ucs}
\usepackage[swedish]{babel}
\usepackage[utf8x]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T2A]{fontenc}

I have started the compilation of the dictionary, and from the error messages can be seen that all the fonts in place, however, the compilation will fail due to excessive "}".

Not yet. I can not find this place. Is it possible to givе a reference to the .tex file at the compile errors? It is easier to find an extra bracket in LaTeX.

I did a manual pdflatex run and copied the log to http://files.learnnavi.org/NaviDictionary_ru.log for examination.

There are still bracket errors and LaTeX-significant characters that need \ in front. Some of these are difficult to determine unless you are well-versed in LaTeX.
Also, the Cyrillic word spacing may be causing problems. See http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX/Errors_and_Warnings for the meaning of the various warnings. It may help to track down the problems.
