Carborundum

When using the /msg USERSERV register command, any and all usernames I try to enter are apparently invalid. I have tried Carborundum, carborundum and ircarborundum.
I have tried using both the Java webchat client and XChat IRC, with the same result.
What am I doing wrong?

I think the maximum length for a username is 10 characters. (Note that your username doesn't have to be the same as your nickname, which can be up to 15.)

Kaltxì, ulte zola'u nìprrte' ne IRC eltu lefngap , ma 'eylan Carborundum!

Sorry for the confusion with the IRC services. The mistake was totally on my end for not revealing the 10 char limit in the IRC tutorial (the tutorial message has been updated appropriately). Irayo seiyi for the heads'-up on this!
