After nosing around Google a bit, it seems that Safari does this with other website packages besides SMF.  The prevailing wisdom is to dump all cookies, but your mileage may vary. It appears to be something in the way Safari renders a page using certain style sheets.

K.  I'll give it a try, and let you know if the white screen of death still persists.

No dice.  Deleting all cookies didn't change it.  The White Death remains.

That is odd. Nothing has changed on the server in several weeks. Weird...

Gremlins in the system?

/not very helpful post

I've not noticed it happening in either firefox, chrome or IE9 so it's pretty certain its something to do with safari
(haven't got any other browsers handy to check with)
Only mostly AWOL.

I've noticed another problem that started at the same time as the Death-Screen:  I'll frequently see a thread listed as having a new post, click on the "new" button, see the new post...  Then, i'll come back to the site later—sometimes 30 minutes later—and it'll say there's a new post again, i'll click on the button—and it takes me right back to the same post that was "new" before.

In short, it doesn't seem to always "know" when i view new posts.  Not sure why...

This happens to me on occasion. I have never experienced the white screen of death, however.

The APC cache is turned off in the forum because of conflicts with the anon posting in the LEP section. Could be a local cache problem on the client side...

Did you hit refresh before you clicked on the "new" button?  Usually the "new" buttons will go away for threads you've visited.

Even better:  I'd completely navigated away from the forum, and then come back a half hour or so later.  It's only happened once today, but it's been happening every now and then, since the aforementioned Death-Screen began.  So, i suspect the two are related...

Please excuse my necropost, I'm just wondering if anything new has been discovered about what may be causing this. It is still happening fairly frequently to me. In fact it JUST happened right before I posted this.

I'm using Safari. I'd rather not switch if I don't have to. Safari is my browser of choice. My OS is Windows 7.

Could it be the massive switch from v4 to v6 because it's been happening to a lot of people on a lot of sites no matter which browser or OS they seem to use?  Myself included seeing as on a different site it happens every other page but here it's maybe once every hour and on another it depends on where I'm going.

hmm... afaik I don't have a v6 address but I don't know about the server side. It doesn't load anything, in a fraction of a second you just get a completely white screen :(

No its not since 95% of the operators doesn't give a s*** about IPv6. There wont be a switch until they are truly forced to make it. Most people couldn't care less as it is now, and this will cause problems sooner or later.

The only ISP I know that provide IPv6 in any form is Bahnhof, and the only websites I know that is natively contactable on IPv6 is loopia.se, www.swephone7.com, skxawng.lu (!)

Also, an IPv4/6 conflict would cause true connection problems independent of the browser, not dropped connections after the headers are sent or whatever is happening.
