Terror bombs? :o :-X

Too early to tell, but from the videos, the kinetic signature of the explosion looks definitive high order to me. Chances are very good this is a deliberate act.

Due to the fact that the explosions look absolutely coordinated and organized, there is no doubt Boston currently suffers from a terrorist attack. Source : french médias.

Unfortunately looks that way...  They aren't releasing any local official information yet.  But it's looking like someone went around and placed multiple devices (reported to be in backpacks) at and near the finish line on Boylston Street across from the Prudential Center as well as nearby.  They have a possible suspect on video.  But the media is conflicting their own information.  So I wouldn't speculate until more official word is released.  However the initial thought is that it's a local event, not something larger.  But there have been 2 fatalities thus far and 23 reported injuries.  Just sad when this happens...  :(

Usually I say "due process" and look at circumstances.  But...

132+ so far
15 critical with major permanent injuries
about 10 very young children

2 deceased at this time  One, an 8 year old boy.
(The only reason this isn't higher is that we have some of the best trauma and specialty hospitals in the world literally just minutes away.  And with the marathon, extra staff and medical teams were available.)

4 devices.  Two went off.  Two located and defused.

My respects to the city and state response teams who acted quickly and managed to locate the other two.  They are asking everyone (public) for personal video at and around the finish line.  I really hope they catch these vrrtep...

The death toll is now at three. There are reports that they are 'pulling ball bearings out of wounds', which confirms these devices were intended to maim people. Officials called these devices 'crude', 'small' and apprently a 'low power explosive' (but I will defer to Toruk Makto on this subject). From the number of people hurt, it is hard to call these devices 'small'. It is very good that the two other devices found did not go off.

My prayers go out for the victims, and their friends and family. May the blood of all the dead and injured be avenged, and required at the hands of the vrrtep aspxin who did this.

5 confirmed devices, 2 detonated at the finish line, another "controlled" explosion at the JFK library. 2 devices found and disarmed. Cell networks in the area were shut down to prevent further detonations of any devices.

Nypost is reporting that the police has a "a person of interest" whom sustained shrapnel damage of "Saudi descent". Still very early in the process now but other new orgs have begun to confirm that early report.

Multiple amputations are being reported for the critical injuries.

The unwillingness by the White House to call these events attacks of any level, terrorist or not, is beginning to smell of a recent event (See: Benghazi). Nevertheless, it rather obvious what it is.

Quote"When multiple devices go off, that's an act of terrorism," a senior administration official told Fox News, just moments after President Obama delivered a statement to the nation and did not use the word "terror."

The path of a suspected Saudi guy has been withdrawn before I went to sleep (it's currently 5:00 Am in France). However, BFM TV now tries to understand what could have happened, remembering the even more terrifying bombings in Oklahoma city back in 1995. The fact that Obama used a both precise and open lexical field around patriot day may mean that the cause could possibly come from inside America, and potentially extreme right people or group.

There was apparently no device at JFK library. It looks like it was a fire of electrical source that happened at the same time by chance.

The fact that the federal authorities avoid defining these bombings as terrorism may come from the excesses of the previous Bush administration, and probably wants to avoid any kind of misinterpretation while the events are on. That's also what they say on that french TV channel.

The harsh thing is that an eight years old boy is among the casualties. This is just horrifying, knowing this marathon was also dedicated to the victims of shootings in Connecticut is I understood well.

Gosh, what a bad news...  And confusing as not every media seems to tell the same story. :(

This is correct.  It was not a related issue.

As much as it caused confusion as people tried to dial their cells, they did shut down the cell towers in the area within minutes.  The fear was that they were remotely triggered.  Thus authorities were trying to block cell calls in that part of the city.  Whether the devices were actually triggered that way, will come out in the investigation.

Sadly a third has perished.  And I'm guessing there will be more with the multiple amputations and other critical wounds that bystanders received.

Thankful that the other two devices were located and defused before they too could do their damage.  I hope that they collect enough evidence to identify the who to this.

Without being there, but looking at the videos, I would guess an improvised device using TATP as the explosive.  Especially if they are finding deliberate included shrapnel. The combination points to a homegrown terrorist,  but we'll have to wait and see what they find.

We can't make the world safe from maniacs, no matter how hard we try.

With all due respect, the NY Post has been banging on all afternoon saying stuff with no facts or evidence to back any of it up.  At one point they were saying 23 dead. I don't really trust that crowd even on a good day.
