A correspondence between Karyu Pawl and Mako (reposted from the Kelutral Discord server):
QuoteOriginal question text:
QuoteKaltxì ma Karyu!

Quick question. We have a model where Na'vi names with _o'a_ can be shortened to _oa_ in casual speech. Does this pattern serve as a possible explanation for the occasions we see/hear Na'vi > *Navi in the pronunciation in the film and / or written instances from the AVATAR socials? Or are we rather chalking that up to human approximation?

Irayo nìli!

Original correspondence summary (no text log):
QuoteV'V will commonly shorten to VV in casual or rapid speech. V'C or C'V will not.

The summary of the response was "vowel'vowel in names will consolidate to vowelvowel in casual or rapid speech. Because Na'vi isn't vowel'vowel, any elision of the tìftang is not grammatical[/size]", there was no mentioning ov V'V in general, outside of names if I haven't missed anything  :)
Edit: Ok, I jsut saw that Mako wrote two different things at two different places, once he said it is for names, once that it is unclear if for names or general, so i guess Pawl's reply didn't specify names here

To avoid these kinds of unclarities it would be great if we could get the original quote from Pawl  8) (unless Pawl asked not to share it, of course)

The original quote happened over a phone call, so I don't have a written correspondence to share unfortunately. Best to assume he was only referring to names, as that was the context of the question, until I have an opportunity to seek further clarification
