i think that we should have glass windows, this will let light in to the hut while keeping the bugs out.

Glass is expensive, though.

A much better idea ^_^ and harder to break, too.

Yeah, I think plastic would be the best.

Oh, random idea; what if we made the main hut look like the mobile link-pod, but bigger?

It would cost a fair bit more than simple wooden cabin, and would require more tools to construct. It would be a cool idea, but it all depends on what kind of funding we have and how much money we have to throw around on looks.

join our real life tribe! here(And yes, it will be a real tribe in the real world, not a role play tribe)

I think a simple wooden cabin will do perfectly ;)

Ground cabin/ Commons. and then tree houses. How big would you want the houses. Depending on the trees or if we have no good trees, how big then would you want them on the ground. Probably raised off of the ground on stilts to protect from floods and smaller animals.

hang on 1 second are we trying to rebuild modern society here or a tribe??

cause from what iv read (sorry to be a major downer here) but it seems were just rebuilding a modern socitey in a green environment.

This is what i suggest you do to see if you can hack living in a tribe. Take 2 weeks out and go to the middle of knowhere with one change of clothes, a tent, an air rifle (or real rilfe) a knife and try to live for 2 weeks totally rough. its just a suggestion cause i did it and it toughens you up allot.

also glass to keep out bugs or plastic is defeating the whole purpose of this "Tribal" Experience.

also what about religion seeming as most of us realise that eywa is a fictional deity what would we do, would we follow gaia?

Well basically, the point is to go and get a semblance of the tribe experience. It will be hard enough on us in the middle of a jungle without adding to it by taking away potentially useful things. The idea as it was started was to be a group out living a better life. If everyone wants to rough it I'm fine with that and will whole heartedly go for it, but right now, we don't know what we want for sure. We are just toying with ideas and need to test them out on smaller scale. On the issue of glass windows, I suggested at one point using a wooden cover over a hole that you can latch closed to keep out the elements. Basically using shutters. I think that could be a compromise in price and tribal authenticity, wouldn't you agree? And besides that, this won't be happening for at least a little while, say 4 years or more. People need to grow up to the point where they are legally adults so they can decide whether they want to do this or not. I get the idea that parents of teenagers growing up would not like their child to run off for years or months on end to live a tribal life. And if we are building a greener modern society, would that really be so bad an alternative?

problem i have with a piece of wood to just put over a hole in the wall basically is that it blocks out all light from the outside and when open lets out heat(or cold) and lets in bugs, and possibly precipitation. i had also just thought while reading some of these posts that we almost have to build a semi-modern cabin(hut) atleast so that any electronic equipment is preserved and does not take damage from the elements that are able to get into the cabin like rain and other things. this hut would have to be built to were its water proof or at least resistant, definitely has to be sealed(so that water cannot rot the wood over time making all efforts pointless and the whole thing dangerous to be in). also, what are we going to make this hut out of anyways. logs, wood planks and boards, sheet metal, this hasnt really been discussed much.

In a way- I'm going to be starting a Spiritualist thread as soon as things get more settled down. Only when everything settles down more, though, after the Eyktan election. If you're interested in this subject, though, please feel free to PM me. As the spiritual leader I would love to talk about it to anyone who wishes to know.

The plan is to OPEN the polls on the First, then give it a week for everyone to vote. After that, we'll have our eyktan.

Kaltxi ma aytsmukan:

I have a few things to add ^^

The windows: I agree that plastic would be less expensive, but in the long run, glass is more practical.  A. you can get the kind that doesn't break easily.  B. if won't scratch as easily as plastic [because animals, bugs, and weather WILL run into them].  Why does this matter?  Because scratched plastic doesn't let in that much light and it ruins the integrity of it.  C. Glass windows are premade.  Even have those double-paned kind.  So if someone shoots an arrow at the window by accident, it won't break... probably.  Just saying.

The tech cabin: I agree.  We need to have an actual structure out there.  Not just for the computer and such, but to hold sterile medical equipment, a safe and bug-free place in case someone gets sick, and a safe place in case inclement weather strikes.  No reason to give up all of our modern-day advances our ancestors worked so hard at achieving.

Spiritual: Obviously Eywa is made up, taken off of the Gaia theory.  Uriuujin, you make a good point, and good idea about the separate thread.  It will be very long thread with a long thread life, I am sure.

Also: I think Gaia likes that I'm involved in what we're doing.  I will explain:
See, its been nice lately.  Considering how bad this winter is supposed to be, isn't that surprising? [I'm in MD]  Honestly, if feels like spring.  December was awful and the only winter we've really felt here so far.  Hope it stays that way.  I saw a few trees with buds out there.
Anyway.  So I went out yesterday to look for a good sapling to make my tsko from.  I was walking and walking, crossed the creek [there are woods behind my house], through some thorns, and then I stopped dead.  There was this sapling, perfect size, almost entirely straight.  I knew that was destined to be my bow.  I took it.
While taking the bark off, I noticed it had disease at its base.  Poor utral.
Do you see?  She told me that I could take this one, because it was destined for something better than dying from disease! :o
My tsko is beautiful so far, btw.  It's coming along nicely.  It's fascinating to my daughter, because I'm in the process of bending it or w/e its called, and had it slung over my back.  She had big eyes O_O, pointed, asked what my "tsko" was doing.  I taught her both words for tsko [bow] and also what it does with the swizaw [arrows].  Taught her about targets.  Told her when she gets older she can have my old tsko.  Just the right size for her.

Er, I kinda ranted.  Sorry.  Thought you guys might enjoy that though ^^

Please PM me if you are still interested in the real Na'vi tribe.
